2024 was a busy year. I shifted two houses this year, visited four places on my travel list, completed two half marathons, and went on a long bike trip of 650+ kilometers. I also found myself in some tough conversations and situations.
Here are some lessons I learned this year. Some are common sense, but I’ve included them because I tend to overlook the obvious. Some are my own realizations, and others come from wise people I’ve met along the way:
- Uncomfortable conversations happen more often than expected; developing the skill to handle them is a plus.
- Investing is important, but regularly reviewing and rebalancing your portfolio is just as crucial.
- Taxes matter—learning about them is helpful, especially in India.
- Being a generalist or a specialist significantly influences your opportunities and job satisfaction.
- For long-distance biking, always research the route, check weather, fuel stops, and know basic bike maintenance.
- Focus on form while running; it helps prevent injuries and boosts performance.
- Understand how your work fits into your company’s goals.
- Sometimes boring technology works the best.
- Bob’s Bar in Indiranagar, Bangalore serves amazing dosa.
- Know who you’re voting for and understand what they stand for.
